Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in a woman's uterus. They can range in size from very small to large, and may grow singly or in clusters. The exact cause of uterine fibroids is unknown, but they are more common in women aged 30-49 years old, and occur more frequently in African American women than in other populations. While most fibroids do not cause any symptoms, some women may experience pain, heavy bleeding, or pressure on the bladder due to their size. Treatment options for uterine fibroids include medication, surgery, and minimally invasive procedures such as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE).
